About this Event

The Insights for Action seminar series explores how researchers and practitioners within and beyond Oxford are using research insights to drive social change. In this seminar we will discuss impact finance. Drawing on insights from the work of Acumen and UNDP, and lessons from the broader field, what forms of financing are needed to support systemic social change?

Speakers:

Juliane Reinecke is Professor of Management Studies at the Said Business School. Her research draws on insights from organisation theory, political philosophy and process studies to explore, broadly speaking, how transnational governance institutions emerge and evolve as a result of the interactions of multiple stakeholders to promote more just and sustainable forms of globalisation in global supply chains, but also organisations in general.

Clint Bartlett is an impact investing professional with over 15 years experience in creating impact through consulting and executive positions in Southern Africa. He has a keen interest in policy debates and policy creation with a focus on inclusive economies. He holds an MBA from the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business where he focused on Sustainable Supply Chain Management and a Masters degree in Advanced Management from Yale School of Management where he focused on impact investing, global strategy and political economy. He successfully launched the Yale Club of South Africa in 2017 and is currently a YIA ambassador. In 2019 Clint became a Social Entrepreneurship Fellow at the Jacobs Foundation.

Julia Mensink specializes in Impact Measurement and Management (IMM), impact investing, and thought leadership across investment, portfolio, and strategy levels. Her career builds on over 15 years in roles in impact investing, international development and academia, with the tagline: "Impact measurement for Action." She has lived in Europe, USA, Latin America and Africa. She has strong management and interpersonal skills, with a track record making research useful and actionable. She played tennis, squash, and basketball at national levels, speaks five languages and holds a PhD from the London School of Economics.

Moderator:

Professor Marya Besharov is Professor of Organisations and Impact and Academic Director of the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship. Her research and teaching focus on leadership, social impact, and hybrid organisations. She engages with leaders and organisations worldwide to help them manage competing demands of social impact and financial performance. Marya received a BA in Social Studies, an MA in Sociology, and a PhD in Organisational Behaviour from Harvard University. She also holds an MBA from Stanford University.
