Financing Business Growth - Feasibility & Overcoming Hurdles
Presented by Steve Watts, Senior Vice President, Summit Bank, IMA Portland Chapter Annual Sponsor

Growing a business takes more than vision—it takes capital, strategy, and the right financial partners. Whether you’re preparing for your first expansion or scaling to the next level, understanding your financing options (and lender expectations) can make or break your growth plans.

This practical session breaks down how to fund growth, avoid common financing pitfalls, and position your business as a strong, fundable opportunity. After this session, you'll be equiped with the following:

  • Available options for financing and what you should look for in a lender
  • How to make your company attractive to lenders
  • Potential hurdles of growth to overcome, watch out for, or navigate carefully around

About Steve Watts:

Steve Watts is a Senior Vice President at Summit Bank. He has over 30 years of commercial banking experience and earned his B.S. in Business Administration from Oregon State University and his graduate degree from Pacific Coast Banking School. He is active in the non-profit community serving on the board and executive committee for Meals on Wheels People, as the current board president for GiGi’s Playhouse Portland, and as a long-time member and past president of the Rotary Club of Portland.

What You Will Learn:

  • Discover why financial professionals are highly sought after for nonprofit boards.
  • What are the financial responsibilities of nonprofit board members and how can CMAs/CPAs enhance board oversight?
  • What are the key financial questions to ask in order to assess a nonprofit’s financial health prior to and during board service?
