Films uit Delfshaven: Book and Knife

IFFR en Bibliotheek Rotterdam vertonen samen met filmmaker Miku Sato de korte film Book and Knife om 14:00 uur, op zaterdag 30 juni 2024. Dit evenement is gratis toegankelijk. Neem een buurman of vriend mee en ervaar de schoonheid van Rotterdam, ook op het scherm! 

Over Book and Knife 

Soto of saoto is een soep die door heel Indonesië en Suriname wordt gegeten. Het recept verschilt van kookboek tot kookboek, elk met een eigen cultuurhistorische achtergrond. Als in een culinair wajangspel zien we drie vrouwen verschillende recepten bereiden uit klassieke kookboeken die tussen 1902 en 1967 verschenen, om te eindigen met de soto/saoto zoals restaurant Warung Mini die vandaag de dag serveert. 

Bij de vertoning van Book and Knife gaan de aanwezigen aan de slag met het ontwikkelen van een personage. Hoe bouw je een personage en hoe ontwikkel je die verder? Daarbij wordt stilgestaan bij de verschillende creatieve keuzes die kunnen worden gemaakt en met welke redenen. 

De workshop wordt in het Engels gegeven. De film is in het Indonesisch en Nederlands, met Engelse ondertiteling. Er is een beperkte capaciteit, dus reserveer alvast je plaatsen via onderstaande link.

About Book and Knife 

Soto, also known as saoto, is a soup that is enjoyed throughout the countries of Indonesia and Suriname. Every recipe has its own cultural-historical roots and instructions for preparation vary from cookbook to cookbook. Portrayed as if they were shadow puppets, we witness three women preparing various recipes from books published between 1902 and 1967. They finish with the soto/saoto as served today by restaurant Warung Mini. 

The screening of Book and Knife is accompanied by an activity in which participants will learn how to think of characters and how to develop them. What kinds of decisionmaking go into making a film, and what is the motivation behind these creative decisions? 

The workshop will be given in English. The film is in Indonesian and Dutch with English subtitles. There’s a limited capacity, so please reserve your seats before through the link below.
