Films of Resistance X Gateway Film Festival present a double bill of Palestinian films about children.
Age Rating: 18
Tickets: Donation pay-what-you-can either via Eventbrite or cash on the door. All donations will be split 50/50 between Films of Resistance's Palestinian Cinema Fund and the Palestinian Children's Relief Fund.
Double bill of Children of Shatila (1998) by Mai Masri and A Short Story About Kids (2023) by Ibrahim Handal which recently won a prize at Clermont Ferrand. Both films feature Palestinian children but have different points of views, the former being more about kids behind the camera and the latter more on camera acting.
About Films of Resistance:
Films of Resistance is a decentralised community film screening and fundraising resource that believes in the power of cinema to expose, inspire, reflect, frame and reframe; its ability to incite change and resistance on a local and global level.
With documentary and fiction films chosen for their artistic impact, the initiative aims to inspire deep thinking, understanding, compassion, and – ultimately – long-term, sustainable and active resistance to the genocide and oppression of the Palestinian people.
All funds raised go to support Palestinian cinema in the short and medium-term by: providing film equipment to cultural centres and grassroots organisations in the West Bank working with cinema education for young people; providing funds as well as in kind advisory support for productions in progress in Palestine by Palestinian filmmakers (with the help of a film committee of key cinema figures in Palestine); direct filmmaker support upon request of the filmmakers.
