THE FILMMAKER SHARK TANK

The Sharks can ask questions.

They may challenge the filmmaker on:

  • Budget
  • Experience
  • Audience
  • Revenue
  • Distribution
  • Production risks
  • Ownership
  • Marketing
  • Timeline
  • Previous projects

The filmmaker must defend their idea and demonstrate that they are capable of turning the vision into a real production.

This is where the event becomes different from a traditional film festival.

Contestants must explain the business side of their project.

They should be prepared to discuss:

  • Production budget
  • Funding request
  • Revenue strategy
  • Target audience
  • Distribution strategy
  • Marketing plan
  • Production timeline
  • Team
  • Intellectual property ownership
  • Expected return
  • Future projects

The goal isn't just:

"I want to make a movie."

The goal is:

STEP 4 — THE SHARKS RESPOND

"Here's the movie, here's the audience, here's how much it costs, here's how we're going to make it, and here's how you can participate in the opportunity."

Whenever possible, contestants can show:

  • Film trailers
  • Concept trailers
  • Scenes
  • Sizzle reels
  • Mood reels
  • Character introductions
  • Production designs
  • Storyboards
  • Previous work

STEP 3 — THE BUSINESS PLANThis gives the Sharks the opportunity to see the filmmaker's vision rather than simply hearing about it.

Each contestant receives a limited amount of time on stage.

STEP 1 — THE PITCH

The filmmaker introduces themselves and presents their project.

They explain:

What is the project?

Why should people care?

Who is the audience?

How much will it cost?

How will the project make money?

What makes it different?

STEP 2 — THE TRAILER OR CONCEPT PRESENTATIONWhat are they asking for?

Where Filmmakers Pitch. Investors Discover. Movies Get Made.

The Filmmaker Shark Tank is a live business and entertainment event created to give aspiring filmmakers, producers, directors, writers, actors, cinematographers, and film entrepreneurs an opportunity to turn their ideas into real productions.

Instead of simply pitching a business, contestants pitch films, television concepts, production companies, innovative filmmaking businesses, technology, equipment companies, creative platforms, and entertainment projects to a panel of industry professionals, investors, producers, and potential sponsors.

The goal is simple:

Find great filmmakers with great ideas—and give them the resources to actually make them.

THE CONCEPT

Many talented filmmakers have the creativity, scripts, talent, and vision to create something special—but lack the money, equipment, connections, production team, or business knowledge needed to bring their projects to life.

The Filmmaker Shark Tank is designed to change that.

Contestants step onto the stage and have a limited amount of time to pitch their project to the "Sharks."

The Sharks can then choose to:

  • Invest money into the filmmaker's project
  • Fully or partially fund a movie
  • Provide professional film equipment
  • Provide production services
  • Provide studio or location access
  • Provide mentorship
  • Connect filmmakers with actors, producers, distributors, or investors
  • Partner with the filmmaker for multiple projects
  • Invest in the filmmaker's production company
  • Sponsor an entire season or slate of films
  • Negotiate a long-term production partnership

This makes the event more than a competition.

WHO CAN PITCH?It becomes a marketplace for new filmmaking talent.
