The Sacrifice Zone tells the story of Newark's Ironbound community and its decades-long struggle against environmental racism and the siting of polluting facilities in working-class communities of color. The film follows environmental justice advocates fighting to end the pattern of treating certain neighborhoods as dumping grounds for regional waste and industrial activity.

This conversation asks an important question: Should Jersey City continue to absorb environmental impacts that primarily benefit a wider region? The proposed Van Keuren facility has become a focal point in that debate, raising concerns about whether Jersey City is being asked to shoulder additional waste infrastructure despite existing environmental and public health challenges.
