About this Event
“The Glory of Life” is an emotional, elegantly crafted historical drama about Franz Kafka’s final year. Stricken by tuberculosis, the 40-year-old writer unexpectedly finds love with Dora Diamant, a Polish-Jewish woman he meets on holiday. As Kafka’s health deteriorates, Dora moves with him to an Austrian sanatorium, offering him joy and comfort in his last days. Starring Henriette Confurius and Sabin Tambrea, the film, adapted from Michael Kumpfmüller’s acclaimed book, combines humor, dignity, and poignant joy to tell a deeply moving love story amidst tragedy.
Guest Speaker: Kathi Diamant is an author, director of the SDSU Kafka Project, and PBS fundraising host. Born in New York City and raised in France, Germany, and South Korea, she has worked in various fields including acting, journalism, public speaking, and teaching. Since 1998, she has led the search for Franz Kafka’s lost writings. With over 50 years in television, Kathi continues her work with PBS. She lives in San Diego with her husband, Byron LaDue, and two cats in a historic home.
