Film screening: Ru

Join us for a special film screening of Ru at La Maison Française at the Embassy of France, held as part of FrancophonieDC 2025.

Ru is inspired by the story of the arrival of celebrated author Kim Thúy (Tinh) in Québec. After a perilous sea crossing, young Vietnamese Tinh and her family arrive in Québec, where they begin their new life. Thanks to a warm welcome from everyone, including the family who sponsors them, Tinh slowly adapts to her new reality. Shy and reserved by nature, Tinh will have to draw from deep within herself the determination needed to adapt to her new reality.

This event, sponsored by the Québec Government Office in Washington and presented in partnership with Georgetown University, is part of FrancophonieDC Cultural Festival 2025, which spotlights the music, art, literature, film, cuisine, and customs of French-speaking countries and regions from across the globe.

The movie will be screened in French with English subtitles.

Program:

6:30pm: Doors open

7:00pm: Screening begins

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

Doors will open at 6:30 PM. Please allow extra time for security check-in. You will need a valid photo ID and your Eventbrite ticket (printed or ready on your phone). Please remember that for security purposes, the name on the ticket must match the name on the ID. If you have not entered the names of your plus-ones, you must edit your order directly through Eventbrite before the event.

There will be no on-site parking. Metered parking is available on Reservoir Road at $2.30 per hour, with a maximum of 4 hours until 10:00 pm. Garage parking is available at Georgetown MedStar Health. Use Entrance #2 at 2800 Reservoir Road NW. The rate is approximately $25 for up to 3 hours. Public transit is also an option: the D6 bus passes directly in front of the embassy.

For security reasons, embassy staff and security services cannot allow large bags, umbrellas, backpacks, or bike helmets to be brought onto Embassy grounds. The security team reserves the right to confiscate any items deemed inappropriate.
