If the thought of a soppy sugary Valentine’s Day leaves you cold, indulge yourself in a dark, sexy and dramatic film screening at The Pyramid on Tuesday 14 February at 7.30pm - Pandora’s Box, one of the greatest dramas to have come out of the silent era, accompanied live by internationally renowned musician, Neil Brand.

Pandora’s Box is celebrated for its sensational storyline, sparkling Weimar-period setting and the acclaimed lead performance from its iconic star Louise Brooks. In the film that made her name, Brooks is captivating as steamy temptress Lulu, whose ambition and bold sexuality bring about the downfall of every man (and woman) who falls under her spell. From Berlin to Marseille to London we trace her downward path to a fatal ending. Written and directed by the great Expressionist director GW Pabst, shockingly modern in its look and its attitudes to sexuality, Pandora’s Box works as well today as it did on its release over 90 years ago: and few stars of any era dazzle as bright as Louise Brooks. Both film and actress went on to influence the great Hollywood movies of the 1940s; don’t miss this rare chance to catch it the way it was intended to be enjoyed - on the big screen with a live soundtrack.

Neil Brand is a world-class composer, writer, radio playwright, presenter and broadcaster specialising in silent film and film music - "Arguably the country's greatest silent movie score composer" according to Mark Kermode. He is a regular silent film accompanist at London's National Film Theatre, as well as appearing at cinemas and festivals all over the world, the presenter of BBC Four’s The Sound of Musicals and The Sound of TV, and an acclaimed playwright and speaker - it’s a real coup to welcome him to The Pyramid!

Come with friends, significant other or enjoy your own company - all welcome! Tickets include FREE alcoholic or soft drinks and snacks.

PG. Two alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks per person and snacks; cabaret style seating (unreserved).

Supported by Film Hub Scotland, part of the BFI’s Film Audience Network, and funded by Screen Scotland and National Lottery funding from the BFI.
