In partnership with Kansas City PBS, The Museum of Kansas City will host screening a series documentaries taken from the KCPT film library that explore amazing stories, iconic moments, and the diverse voices that have shaped our city’s past and present. The series will begin with a film called Finding Refuge in KC.

Kansas City has long been a starting point for refugees seeking safety and opportunity in America. Finding Refuge in KC shows how five refugees are giving back to the community that received them. A young Congolese man leads his college student government. A loving Somali mother helps new arrivals like herself. A Syrian family is grateful for Kansas City’s welcoming spirit and its medical expertise. A former refugee from Europe is a beloved restaurateur. And a Vietnamese businessman regales his customers with a soulful version of Frank Sinatra’s “My Way.” Like hundreds of other refugees in the Kansas City area, the subjects of the film endured the traumas of war, dislocation, and stints in refugee camps before finding their way to America.
