About the film: The Black Mambas were formed in 2013, at the peak of the Kruger National Park’s rhino poaching crisis, to protect the park and conserve its wildlife. Germany-based documentarian Lena Karbe films South Africa’s first all-female anti-poaching unit and the sexism, danger and enduring colonial structures they confront. The screening will start at 5pm, and the documentary will be followed by a live Q&A with film director Lena Karbe.
The Red Hearth organises a yearly summer gathering for women, fostering sisterhood, wellbeing, creativity and mutual care. This film screening is intended both as a fundraiser for our gathering, and an opportunity to bring our community together in late winter, to raise awareness of important women-related themes.
