Join us for a special screening of the film Ghost Noise (2010). This short documentary explores the world of Shuvinai Ashoona, a graphic artist whose meticulous sketches and drawings show her unique view of Inuit culture. Connolly shows Ashoona at work in the Kinngait Studios where she has been working for over 15 years, and in the surrounding streets and landscapes of Kinngait (formerly known as Cape Dorset), a small hamlet in the Canadian territory of Nunavut. This film won Best Canadian or Short Film at the Dawson City Film Festival (2010) and was an official selection for a variety of film festival including imagineNative Film Festival and the Vancouver International Film Festival. This offering is intended to complement our current exhibition, Inuit Drawings and Prints from the Collection of James J. Richardson, which includes drawings by Ashoona.
Following the film, we will screen a pre-recorded conversation with the Director and Producer, Marcia Connolly. Snacks and drinks will be available to purchase.
Available by donation. Limited seating is available so please RSVP to [email protected] today!
