Gloria Rolando is an award winning, highly acclaimed Afro Cuban film maker who lives and works in Havana Cuba. Rolando's career as film director spans over 35 years at ICAIC, the Cuban National Film Institute and as head of an independent film-making group called, Imágenes del Caribe, based in Havana. She calls the series of her films "Histories and Images of Our People" because the content revolves around the Black experience, historically, politically, culturally, and spiritually. Importantly, her films continually show the connections Africans in the diaspora have with Cuba, enlightening our pan African understanding.

Gloria Rolando has produced and directed 17 films including;

Ogun: The Eternal Presence about the Orisha and life of Lazaro Ros,

1912: Breaking the Silence (a three-part series) about the massacre of

Afro Cubans, Eyes of the Rainbow the only documentary with and about Assata

Shakur in Cuba Reshipment the story of Haitian immigrants to Cuba

And many more

Gloria Rolando recently received a visa to conduct research for her current film project on the Buffalo Soldiers and their time and relations in Cuba. We offer this opportunity to view one of her many films and dialogue with Gloria about her current project will be an important opportunity to share, learn, and expand our understanding of the Black experience.
