Join YEGTheComeUp! And the AGA for a special Black History month edition of our Monthly Film Program on Thursday February 9th at the Art Gallery of Alberta. Guest programmed by Faith Abimbola from the YEGTheComeUP!
We are screening two amazing films by Director Barry Jenkins, including Oscar winning “Moonlight” at 6pm and “If Beale Street Could Talk” at 8pm. Enjoy one film for $10 or both for $15 for General Admission. Seniors & students receive a discount of $5 per film or $10 for both. This screening is part of the AGA’s programming for Black History Month. Please note that both films are rated 14A, which means that people under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
6pm | Moonlight (2016 – 111 Minutes)
This Oscar Winning film follows three time periods of the main character Chiron who grapples with his identity and sexuality while experiencing the everyday struggles of childhood, adolescence, and burgeoning adulthood.
8pm | If Beale Street Could Talk (2018 -117 Minutes)
A young woman embraces her pregnancy while she and her family set out to prove her childhood friend and lover innocent of a crime he didn’t commit.
About YEGTheComeUp! Through the Africa Centre: Between our elders and children, Africa Centre recognizes that the youth are often forgotten. For this reason, the youth of the Africa Centre created a collective in September 2013 previously referred to as the Youth Empowerment Group, YEG and now YEGTheComeUP!
