n 1986, five years after the events of The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) have retired from confrontations with the supernatural—Ed following a heart attack and both increasingly wary of the darkness they’ve faced. However, the peace is shattered when the Smurl family—Janet and Jack Smurl, along with their daughters—begin experiencing terrifying paranormal disturbances in their Pennsylvania home. The activity includes loud noises, leaks of strange odors, violent attacks, and unexplained physical phenomena.
Drawn by both duty and compassion, the Warrens reluctantly return for one last case, plunged into perhaps the darkest and most unresolved haunting of their careers. As they investigate, their adult daughter Judy (Mia Tomlinson) and her boyfriend Tony Spera (Ben Hardy) become deeply involved—introducing generational tension, emotional stakes, and a fresh yet personal perspective.
