In response to the City of Peoria’s recent passing of an ordinance prohibiting public camping within city limits on November 19, 2024, Phoenix Community Development Services (PCDS) will be hosting a donation drive to support individuals currently living in encampments as they transition into more permanent housing. The donation drive, titled Fill Howie for the Homeless, will take place on Giving Tuesday, December 3, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the former Methodist School of Nursing Building, located at 415 NE St. Mark Ct, Peoria.
This initiative is part of PCDS's ongoing efforts to help end homelessness in the community by providing non-perishable food, household paper goods, and other essential items. We have a wish list set up at https://publuu.com/flip-book/644295/1631321. These donations will assist individuals moving from encampments into supportive housing as part of the organization's mission to provide safe and affordable housing, along with vital on-site services that empower residents to build self-sufficiency and improve their quality of life.
“We understand that providing a place to live is just the beginning. Our goal is to ensure that families and individuals not only find a home but also have the necessary support to maintain it,” said Christine Kahl, CEO of PCDS. “The community’s involvement through donation drives like Fill Howie for the Homeless will be crucial in helping us continue our work and make a lasting impact in the lives of those who need it most.”
PCDS’s Supportive Housing Services play a critical role in addressing homelessness in Peoria by offering long-term solutions for individuals and families. The organization's services focus on helping residents maintain their homes by providing case management, job training, mental health support, and other services that promote independence and stability.
"Homelessness comes with significant costs, not only for the individuals experiencing it but also for the community and taxpayers," added Christine Kahl. "Emergency services such as hospitals, police, fire departments, and shelters are often overwhelmed by the needs of those without stable housing. By working together, we can reduce these burdens and give individuals the tools they need to thrive.”
PCDS invites everyone in the community to participate in this important donation drive and help support those most in need this holiday season. Donations can be dropped off at the former Methodist School of Nursing Building on December 3rd between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
