About this Event
Join us for a Filipino Fruits and Veggies Class at Vallejo People's Garden!
Learn about the variety of fruits and veggies which grow in both the Philipines and here in Solano. We will learn about produce, what they look like and how they're used.
Have you ever wondered if the tropical flavors of the Philippines that you’ve tried and enjoyed can actually grow right here in Solano County? Join us for a fun and interactive class where we’ll explore the exciting possibilities of cultivating Filipino fruits and vegetables in our own backyards.
What you’ll learn:
- Which Filipino crops thrive in our local climate: Discover vegetables such as upo (bottle gourd), ampalaya (bitter melon), chayote, and more!
- Fruits that can adapt to Solano County conditions: Learn about calamansi, guava, mango, banana, and more.• Tips for success: Best planting seasons, soil preparation, and watering strategies to mimic the conditions these crops love.
- Cultural connections: The role these fruits and vegetables play in Filipino cuisine, traditions, and family meals.
- Hands-on learning: Participants will have the chance to see seeds, seedlings, and even taste samples of Filipino-inspired dishes.
