Figurehead ll statue launch event

Marjon is proud to announce the launch of Figurehead ll statue. The artwork is a companion piece to help develop Marjon's status as a cultural hub for the North of the city.

The Figurehead II statue was commissioned by The Box museum in Plymouth prior to its launch in September 2020.

The piece was created by internationally renowned artist Alexandre da Cunha. Cunha, who has been featured at the Tate Modern, creates pieces that hold a strong sense of community, social engagement, and social inclusion, values that strongly align with the University.

As part of the Plymouth Public Art Plan (PPAP), the Figurehead II statue will be installed at Marjon on loan from The Box. The PPAP aims to bring high-quality art into public spaces to enable them to play a role in everyday life.

Figurehead II will be installed on the grass next to the Marjon Arts Centre, home to the Quad Theatre.

• 12:05 Victoria Pomeroy, CEO, The Box

• 12:10 Jodie Bishop, Vice-Chair, Plymouth Culture Board

• 12:15 Sarah McAdam, Dean of the School of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences.

Followed by light refreshments.
