The National Montford Point Marine Associaion in conjunction with local Chapters 3 New York and Chapter 45 New Jersey and The Center for Military-Affiliated Students are honored to host a special ceremony recognizing the legacy of the Montford Point Marines—the first African Americans to enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. Despite facing segregation and systemic racism, these trailblazing Marines served with distinction and were later awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, the nation’s highest civilian honor.
This event will honor NY and NJ's own Montford Point Marines - The Honorable David Dinkins, NYC Mayor, Ken Rollock and Joe Wilder, legendary jazz trumpter. In addition the posthumous presentation of medals to the families of local Montford Point Marines from New York and New Jersey.
