Why should you take the course?
Almost everybody has some fear of speaking out loud in front of others. No matter where you fall on the scale from nervous avoider to terrorised trembler, you’ll get the confidence and skills you need to move forward with your speaking journey.
There’s no ability more important than the ability to communicate and connect.
From job interviews to client pitches, presentations to team meetings and dissertation defences to dating – being able to communicate and connect is everything.
Does that mean you’ll ditch the nerves forever?
Of course not. Nerves are not a bad thing.
The problem comes when we have no control over the nerves, and we begin to let them stop us doing things that are going to be good for us.
How will the course work?
There’ll be no slides, and no heavy theory.
We’ll talk about what it is that causes the fear of speaking out loud and what we can do to face it, control it and overcome it.
Of course, there’ll be lots of opportunity and encouragement to speak. How much you speak and to how many people will be totally up to you.
We’ll start by talking in pairs, progress to small groups and eventually see if we can get you up in front of the whole group.
But you’ll decide how much you’re willing to do.
Our groups will be small. We want the group to be small enough that you won’t be overwhelmed but big enough for it to feel like a challenge.

Who is this course for?
There’s no such thing as a beginner, intermediate or advanced level of this course.
This course is for anybody who feels uncomfortably nervous when they speak and wants to change that.
Some people have spoken for years but just can’t shake off the feeling of doom every time they do, and others have avoided speaking all their lives and simply never do it.
I can’t promise that after this course you’ll never feel nervous again when you’re speaking out loud. I can probably promise you will. I certainly do!
But I can promise you’ll leave this course with the tools, confidence and courage you need to finally overcome the paralysing fear.
Everybody will leave the course with an action plan, laying out the next steps you’ll take to make sure the huge momentum you’ll get from this course isn’t lost.

What this course is NOT
This is not a course designed to help you become a hotshot speaker.
We won’t be covering techniques for developing your advanced speaking skills.
This course is only about handling nerves, finding courage and developing confidence.

Your course leader
My name is Dan Magill and I’ll be running your course.
I graduated from university with big hopes of becoming a national journalist.
I was quickly offered an interview for a place on the UK’s top journalism course, fully funded by a national newspaper.
I arrived at the interview to find out that all 20 candidates would be asked to give a 5-minute presentation about themselves, in front of the entire group. There were 12 places available on the course, so the chances were good.
But I simply couldn’t face the group presentation.
During a short coffee break before the presentations, I left the building and never returned.
In 2017, having spent 20 years avoiding public speaking, presentations and speeches, I decided enough was enough. I began my journey to overcome my public speaking paralysis.
8 years later I am:
· An accomplished keynote speaker and workshop facilitator
· Two-time UK and European Public Speaking Champion
· A communications consultant and trainer, working with businesses including:
- Sky Television
- NatWest Bank
- British Airways
- Vodafone
- Bristol Myers Brigg
- Yorkshire Building Society
- The British Foreign Office
- London Product Design Week
- Tecnologico de Monterrey
- Coachella Public Libraries
· Two-time contestant at the World Championships of Public Speaking
· A 4-time national humorous speech champion, 5-time winner of The Moth Story Slam and a part-time stand-up comedian
· A 1-1 public speaking, communications and confidence coach
If I could overcome my crippling fear - no matter what you think…
YOU 100% can do it too.
Grab a place on the Help! I Can’t Speak Out Loud course, and you’ll be on your way.
