For fifty years, the artists at Archway Gallery have shaped their own creative path, establishing the gallery as a cornerstone of Houston’s vibrant arts community. Founded in 1976 by twelve local artists determined to market and sell their own work, the gallery first opened its doors in the The Jung Center, drawing its name from the distinctive arches in that space. Over time and several locations later, Archway Gallery has evolved into a cherished arts district institution—an enduring symbol of artistic collaboration and community spirit. While many galleries have come and gone, the success of Archway Gallery is rooted in a shared passion and purpose—a truth affirmed by the over 200 artists who have been a part of Archway’s story.
One of its founding members, Stephanie Nadolkski, recounts the impact the gallery had on her career. “I cannot count the many ways Archway contributed to my artistic and professional career. All the artists were there for support and inspiration and loyal collectors became friends, adding layers of dimension to my personal and professional growth.” Longtime patron of Archway Gallery Marcia Faschingbauer describes her first memory. “I first discovered Archway Gallery at The Jung Center, and it has continued to weave itself through my life ever since—through artists, friendships, and unforgettable works my husband and I have collected and lived with for decades. It is a deeply welcoming, inclusive place where you truly get to know the people behind art, reflecting the cultural diversity and creative spirit that defines Houston itself. Having survived storms, a pandemic, and decades of change, Archway Gallery continues to evolve without ever becoming stale even though it has tremendous history and legacy. Congratulations to artists past and present whose big hearts continue to connect and inspire us,” said Faschingbauer.
