Le programme FIFA EXPÉRIMENTAL – PERFORMANCES porte sur l’écoute et le toucher en lien avec la mémoire, le rythme, le mouvement et l’émotion. On découvre une fascinante gestuelle dans l’œuvre de Bettina Hoffmann ainsi qu’un hommage au compositeur hongrois György Ligeti dans le court métrage de Nathalie Bujold; quant à Andrew Forster, il expose dans son moyen métrage la définition unique que donne le compositeur et violoniste montréalais, Malcolm Goldstein, de l’improvisation expérimentale.

À propos du FIFA EXPÉRIMENTAL
FIFA EXPÉRIMENTAL est une section hors compétition et sur invitation élaborée par la commissaire en arts visuels et médiatiques Nicole Gingras. Après trois éditions en mode virtuel, FIFA EXPÉRIMENTAL amorce un retour en salle, exclusivement. Cette décision s’est imposée pour honorer des formes de cinéma où la dimension physique de l’expérience visuelle et sonore se vit pleinement lorsque projetée sur écran et diffusée dans une salle en présence d’un public. Quatre programmes ont été assemblés de manière à suggérer ou, parfois, à provoquer des correspondances sur les plans thématique, formel, structurel, technique, symbolique, onirique, philosophique et politique, entre les œuvres réunies. Cette sélection met l’accent sur des approches innovantes du cinéma et de la vidéo selon trois grands axes : les processus de création, les modes de collaboration entre artistes à la réalisation d’une œuvre et la matérialité des sons et des images.

The FIFA EXPÉRIMENTAL – PERFORMANCES program deals with listening and touch in relation to memory, rhythm, motion and emotion. Bettina Hoffmann’s work reveals fascinating gestures, Nathalie Bujold’s short animation pays a tribute to the Hungarian composer György Ligeti, and Andrew Forster’s medium-length film presents Montreal composer and violinist Malcolm Goldstein’s unique definition of experimental improvisation.

About FIFA EXPÉRIMENTAL
FIFA EXPÉRIMENTAL is an out-of-competition, by-invitation section of the festival programmed by visual and media arts curator Nicole Gingras. After three editions in virtual mode, FIFA EXPERIMENTAL returns with a program of exclusively in-person screenings. This decision was prompted by the desire to celebrate forms of cinema in which the physical dimension of the visual and aural experience is felt most fully when projected on a large screen, in a theatre, with an audience. Four programs have been assembled so as to suggest—and in some cases provoke—thematic, formal, structural, technical, symbolic, oneiric, philosophical and political correspondences among the works chosen. This selection puts the accent on innovative approaches to film and video according to three major axes: creative processes, modes of collaboration between artists in the production of a work, and materiality of sounds and images.
