The Sutro Library (the State Library’s San Francisco branch) holds the original collection of Adolph Sutro (1830–1898), California businessman and San Francisco mayor. The library has a large collection of publications and items dating from the 13th to the 21st centuries as well as one of the largest genealogy collections in the U.S.

The library is open 10:00-4:00. Attendees may bring their own lunch or purchase lunch at Café 101 located on the first floor or at the Student Center directly next to the library with plenty of seating.

HOW TO GET THERE

The easiest way to get to the Sutro Library is via public transit. (Jane will be taking BART)

NOTE: visitors are requested to lock up their belongings in lockers before entering the reading room – You can bring in computers, electronics, pencils, and single sheets of paper, but everything else will need to be left in the lockers, including food and drinks. .

SPECIAL RESEARCH REQUESTS

If anyone has specific research requests, they are welcome to contact the Library using this email address, [email protected]. Any item from our catalog located in the reading room is available on demand, but items located in the vault need to be requested ahead of time, so folks interested in items from the vault should email the library at least a few days in advance.
