About this Event
Foundation staff member Emily Bell and Florida Native Plant Society Ixia Chapter’s Vice President, Betsy Harris, will lead a hike through the pine flatwoods and sandhills of this beautiful natural area nestled in urban SE Jacksonville. We’ll have a chance to see the rare endemic Bartram’s Ixia (Calydorea caelestina) whose flowers only open for the first few hours of daylight, native milkweed species and much more!
This hike is about 3 miles long and will take approximately 2-3 hours to complete. The terrain is flat, but soft sandy areas are present. Summer heat will be in full swing so please bring plenty of water, a hat and sunscreen, or appropriate sun protective clothing.
Registration is free for Florida Wildflower Foundation members and $10 for nonmembers.
Call 407-622-1606 or email [email protected] to find out if your membership is current or needs to be renewed. To join as a member, visit www.FlaWildflowers.org/support.
