Field Trip @ MFAH

Open MFA is back !  May 14, we will be visiting the MFAH Houston Anne Wilkes Tucker Photography Study Center.  We will have works on paper and rare books for viewing. This event will be limited to 25-30 people due to the capacity of the space. This event is completely Free! We will be emailing those who RSVP with instructions on where to meet before the viewing. 

Open MFA is back! May 14, we will be visiting the MFAH Anne Wilkes Tucker Photography Study Center. A selection of photographs, works on paper, and rare books will be on view. This event will be limited to 25 people and is completely Free! We will be emailing those who RSVP with instructions on where to meet prior to the event.

The study center serves as a resource for artists, classes, scholars, and individuals to view and study the museum’s prints, drawings, photographs, and other works on paper. Across curatorial departments, these objects comprise over half of the museum’s collection.

“The Anne Wilkes Tucker Photography Study Center offers a versatile space to engage with the Museum’s rich holdings of prints, drawings, and photographs, which comprise more than half of the entire MFAH collections but are on public view only for short periods because of light sensitivity. Equipped with a 30-foot display wall, easels, magnifying devices, and more, the study center invites anyone with an interest in photography or works on paper to gain intimate access to these collections.”

“Open MFA provides accessibility to arts education by creating space for community and collaboration amongst artists on the periphery of Houston’s art scene. Inspired by desirable elements of a traditional MFA program, we create opportunities for artists to share knowledge and skills, explore new ideas within their individual practice, and gain intellectual and social exchanges between each other and the broader public. We invite artists, who may otherwise take on student debt to pursue an MFA program, to challenge their work and have meaningful conversations with a community of artists. We are a resource for artists to continue their education—whether they already have a University degree, intend to pursue one in the future, or want to pursue an alternative route.”
