Fiber Fun! Preparing Fiber for Hand Spinning Yarn with Jasmine Davis

Description: Do you enjoy spinning yarn, but want to know more about where we get our fluffy fibers from? Are you looking to create a specific yarn, but aren't sure how to get the results you want? Fiber preparation is an important part of handspinning, and gives you more options for your finished yarns!

We will explore the two main methods of preparing animal fibers for spinning, carding and combing, and learn when to use each preparation method. Students will try each method, explore the different tools available for fiber prep such as hand cards and drum carders, and create several types of prepared fiber for spinning exploration. Then, students will learn methods of spinning various fiber preparations on a drop spindle.

Students will end the class with several ounces of prepared fibers, handspun yarn samples, and the information needed to continue their learning journey.

Students should understand the basic principles of using a drop spindle, and are welcome to bring their own spondles to class. However, advanced beginners will find this class fun and engaging - you don't need much experience to have a good time playing with fiber!

Please note that this class will be working primarily with wool fiber, and may not be suitable for those with wool allergies. Some accommodations can be made, but please notify Contemporary Craft by calling 412.261.7003 as soon as possible.

Tuition: $95 + $25 materials fee

Materials: All materials will be provided.

Cancellations and Refunds: Workshop cancellations are decided three business days before the start date. If workshops must be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, the entire class fee will be refunded by check, to your credit card, or Contemporary Craft account for future workshops.

Refund Policy: Student refund requests must be made at least three business days before a class begins. There will be a $25 cancellation fee. No refunds will be given without three-business days notice. Processing of refunds takes approximately three weeks.
