About this Event
Fetal Ultrasound: From first trimester to advanced fetal anomalies
From the Course Director
You are invited to participate in this intensive, interactive course to learn about fetal anomalies and diagnosis taking place at Texas Children's Hospital.
During this learning opportunity, our audience will learn general concepts on how to perform a fetal ultrasound examination, with live scans performed by experts in the field from Texas Children's Hospital and international institutions. We will have numerous didactic sessions explaining from general concepts to tricks and tips on how to obtain as much information as possible from your ultrasound scan.
In this course, we will review important aspects of ultrasound scanning from first trimester imaging, evaluating how to detect fetal anomalies in cardiovascular and central nervous systems at this early time in pregnancy. We will address how to perform an anatomy scan and also how to assess the fetal brain. Concepts related to fetal brain examination, including how to perform a neurosonology and the diagnosis of some of the most common anomalies in the fetal brain will be covered in detail. The additional value of using fetal MRI will be discussed by one of our fetal radiologists. We will also review how to perform a fetal echocardiogram and the most important aspects of the diagnosis of fetal cardiac anomalies explained by our pediatric cardiologists. One of our fetal genetic counselors will explain the differential diagnosis of the most common genetic syndromes to consider when fetal cardiac and brain anomalies are observed.
We will review some of the most common diagnoses of fetal anomalies, involving different organ systems, such as lung masses, congenital diaphragmatic hernia, renal anomalies, abdominal wall defects, etc. and complications of monochorionic twins. These lectures will be presented by our team of maternal fetal medicine specialists/fetal surgeons. Presentations will involve key aspects of diagnosis and also options for prenatal intervention.
Presentations provided in this course will be alternated with live scans and simulation practice sessions to maximize and consolidate the learning benefits that this course will provide to our audience.
We are looking forward to showing you our hospital and the amazing team of teachers for this course. See you soon in Houston!
