Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) 101
This training provides an introduction to Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD), including causes, prevalence, and symptoms. Participants will learn how prenatal alcohol exposure affects the developing brain, how to recognize possible signs of FASD, and strategies to support individuals who have been prenatally exposed to alcohol and their caregivers.
Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Explore the effects of prenatal alcohol exposure on the developing brain.
- Understand behavioral symptoms of FASD and implications for functioning at home, at school, and in the community.
- Describe basic principles for working with persons with FASD using a strengths-based approach.
- Identify strategies for supporting individuals and caregivers impacted by prenatal alcohol exposure, including reframing behaviors from a brain-based perspective.
