In 2026, NASA astronauts are returning to the Moon with the aim of building a Moon Base. This needs new technology, what would you invent for the Moon?Humans are returning to the Moon.
Award winning and leading Moon artist, Helen Schell will run this family workshop. By using art, craft and rocking pop-up designs, you will be asked to invent future technologies inspired by lunar space exploration and settlement plans.
She has an artwork going to the Moon this summer (Moon Bound Book on the Astrobotic Mission) and has visited NASA, so you can ask about new plans as she is a specialist on this topic. 4 NASA astronauts will be orbiting the Moon in 2026 on the Artemis 2 Mission, and they are planning a Moon base on its South Pole.
You will be shown space technology, past and future (solar power, smart spacesuit materials, 3D printing and satellite communications).
You will be asked to invent the future…what comes next in space and on Earth? There will be a series of space and Moon challenges with images and facts to help develop ideas. These might include robots, smart textiles, space habitats, new energy and spacecraft/transport concepts (rockets & rovers).
This free Festival of Tomorrow workshop is drop-in, with no need to book, and suitable for ages 7+.
