Hello! The Panards Team is delighted to announce the line up and programme of the 24th Festival des Panards!
It will take place once again in the charming and welcoming Yorkshire town of Todmorden where we will use not only the historical Town Hall for both bals and some workshops but also the Community College for the Saturday music and dance workshops.
As always, we are very excited by the quality of the artists joining the festivities.
From Brittany the amazing Planchée (Emmanuelle Bouthillier: violin, voice, feet,
Dylan James: double bass, voice and Yannick Laridon: accordion), will introduce us to the East Breton repertoire of branles, Avant-deux and couples dances, through their rich and subtle orchestration.
Dylan will also play as a duo with his dad Mike James (melodeon, voice), well known to our regular participants who will remember his passionate playing for dancing.
From the south-west France we are delighted to welcome the talented and legendary Emmanuel Pariselle (melodeon, concertina, voice) and Didier Oliver (violin).
Speaking of legends, we are very fortunate to attract to the north one of the best-known hurdy-gurdy players of all times, Nigel Eaton, accompanied by the wonderful Anna Pack on the melodeon.
The amazing and quirky (quacky???) Cri du Canard will make their first appearance on our Tod stage. Newcastle folk graduates, they have been touring the country and have been praised for their talents. They are: Grace Smith (violin), Sam Partridge (flûte traversière en bois) and Dave Gray (accordéon diatonique).
We can’t wait!!!
We have once again two absolutely amazing dance tutors: Natalie Oliver Selsis will introduce the dances from Southwest France and Solenn Boennec will be once gain take us on a Breton journey in her inimitable teaching style. Dances from East Brittany will be covered by Yannick Laridon.
We must not forget to mention our fantastic PA person who has been doing wonders with the sound in this beautiful space, Simon Dumpleton who is also a musician in his own right.
The format stays the same: a bal/fest-noz on both Friday and Saturday evenings, a full day of 17 music and dance workshops for ALL abilities and instruments on Saturday, and a fantastic buzzing mega music and dance session on Sunday to close the festival and drift gently back home.
There will be delicious, sweet pancakes and savoury galettes made by Isabelle and The Mobile Crêperie during the Friday bal and Todmorden has many good quality cafés, restaurants and pubs. There is a bar at the bals too.
On Sunday lunch time we are asking everyone to bring some food to share for the buffet. Please, do contribute if you intend to eat so there is no shortage.
We are once again offering discounted tickets to under 25s and after the success of last year, we have booked the fabulous Hebden Bridge IOU hostel as are keen to offer affordable accommodation and encourage unaccompanied people to join us, and it is just a fantastic place! Despite being in Hebden Bridge, it is very accessible and there are direct trains and buses to Todmorden as well as car sharing. Details of the hostel can be found here: https://hebdenbridgehostel.org/. If you would like a bed there, please contact Yannick directly ([email protected]).
Booking is now open on our website www.frenchdanceleeds.co.uk where you will be able to read more about each artist.
A bientôt!
