What is Festival Beach Food Forest?
An oasis in the middle of downtown Austin, Texas, the Festival Beach Food Forest is an edible forest garden where visitors can openly forage and enjoy fresh food on the shores of Lady Bird Lake.
In a food forest, humans help set the conditions where they, the plants, and local animals can keep the system thriving over time. Using permaculture design and regenerative practices, the FBFF provides food, shade, and ecosystem services to its neighbors. When you visit FBFF, you can enjoy the fruits, nuts, vegetables, and medicinal herbs that flourish in this fence-less community pilot project!
To us, FBFF represents something much bigger than a food forest. It’s a living classroom, gathering place, and source of nourishment—a glimpse of what’s possible when we choose connection over isolation, abundance over scarcity, and stewardship over consumption.
That’s why our ATX19 team chose this project. We believe the world we want to live in is one where people know their neighbors, families know how to grow their own food, communities care for their land, and there is enough abundance to share. We believe in helping cultivate a culture of connection, healing, sustainability, and hope that can keep growing for generations.

As you wander through the forest and garden, nature asks for a little armor: closed shoes, tall socks, and covered legs will keep your adventure comfortable (and bug-free!).
GETTING THERE:
- Festival Beach Food Forest address (multiple entrances, it's an open forest park): 29 Waller St, Austin, TX
- PARKING: Part of the road to the main entrance, Waller St, is currently blocked by construction. You can find additional street parking on Nash Hernandez Senior Rd or Art Dilly Dr instead!
- If you see signs for the Festival Beach Community Garden, the Food Forest is located SOUTH of it so keep walking down. We will be meeting at the Pecan Circle.
