What is Ferragosto?
Ferragosto is a public holiday in Italy that originates from Feriae Augusti, the festival of Emperor Augustus, who made August 1st a day of rest after weeks of hard work harvesting summer crops. These days, Italians celebrate Ferragosto with a long weekend, heading for the coast or the cool mountain air to soak up the last days of summer.
