Fermentation with Farm Ferments: Feasting and Learning @ Indie Füde
About this Event
Join us at Indie Füde for an immersive day of fermentation with the brilliant Gayle from Farm Ferments, returning for another hands-on workshop exploring the flavours, techniques and possibilities of fermented food.
Together we’ll get to grips with the principles behind successful fermentation, with plenty of opportunities to taste, ask questions and get involved along the way. Gayle will share her knowledge of everything from krauts and kimchi to fermented vegetables and drinks, helping to demystify the process and give you the confidence to experiment at home.
A Seasonal Fermented Lunch
Partway through the day, we’ll sit down together for a relaxed lunch at Indie Füde, built around seasonal produce and featuring a selection of Gayle’s ferments. Think seasonal soups, cheese toasties with added delicious ferments and preserved lemon cake...
It’ll be a chance not only to refuel, but to see how fermented foods can become part of everyday cooking and eating – adding acidity, crunch, depth and flavour to a meal rather than simply sitting in a jar at the back of the fridge!
Make Your Own Seasonal Ferment
Then it’s your turn to get properly hands-on. Guided by Gayle, you’ll make your own seasonal ferment using the best produce available to us at the time, learning how to prepare, season and safely ferment it before taking your jar home to continue its transformation.
Rather than sticking to one set recipe, we’ll let the season lead the way – giving you a better understanding of how the basic principles of fermentation can be applied to different vegetables, flavours and ingredients throughout the year.
During the day you’ll:
- Learn the fundamentals of successful fermentation
- Explore krauts, kimchi, fermented vegetables and drinks
- Taste a variety of Gayle’s ferments
- Enjoy a seasonal lunch incorporating fermented foods
- Discover practical ways to use ferments in everyday meals
- Make your own seasonal ferment to take home
- Learn how to adapt fermentation techniques to different ingredients
- Have plenty of time to ask Gayle your fermentation questions
Whether you’re completely new to fermentation or joined us for Gayle’s previous workshop and want to delve a little deeper, this is a relaxed, delicious day of learning, eating and making.
You’ll head home well fed, with your own ferment bubbling into life, plenty of recipe inspiration and – most importantly – the confidence to keep experimenting in your own kitchen.
