About this Event
Feride Buyuran explores the rich culinary traditions of Novruz, one of the oldest and most vibrant festivals in the world. Celebrated across many cultures, Novruz marks the arrival of spring and is associated with special foods and traditions that symbolize renewal, prosperity, and the hope for a fruitful year ahead. In this talk, we’ll dive into the significance of these festive foods in Azerbaijan—from sweet pastries to savory dishes—and uncover the cultural and symbolic meanings behind each one.
Born and raised in Azerbaijan, Feride Buyuran made California her home in her 20s. She is the award-winning author of the cookbook, Pomegranates & Saffron: A Culinary Journey to Azerbaijan, and shares her expertise on the food and culture of her homeland through talks and cultural events. Feride is also the founder of Feride Buyuran Tours (www.feridebuyuran.com) where she leads culinary and cultural tours in the Caucasus region. Through these experiences she introduces travelers to rich flavors and traditions of Azerbaijan and neighboring Georgia. Feride holds a BA and MA in English and Literature from the University of Languages in Baku, as well as an MBA from California State University, Long Beach.
