Feminist musical cabaret 'Alpha Femme' by Megan Garrett-Jones
About this Event

New musical comedy Alpha Femme by Australian writer and performer Megan Garrett-Jones unpacks feminism through animal studies, clowning and the catchiest ukulele songs you’ve never heard of.

“Brave, weird, wonderful!”, “a tonic”.

Part of PLANET THANET, a month-long summer arts series in Merchant City, Glasgow.

What can matriarchal hyenas, reusable period cups, and androgynous forest creatures teach us about feminism/s? Megan Garrett-Jones channels three gurus from the land of radical cabaret to flaunt their femme-powerment. Journey with Vageena Wolf, Bostonian rapper sexologist, Aussie ecowarrior clown Mathilde LaRoo, and Sally/Serge on their “once-upon-a-time" awakening. Hold onto your own moral compass just in case.

Edinburgh Free Fringe 2022.

Alpha Femme is the first solo theatre show from 'creative polymath' Megan Garrett-Jones. As wells as working across devised theatre, spoken word, film, radio and community arts, Megan is part of Kent’s leading queer, feminist, and sex positive cabaret Screaming Alley whose show Up you Alley features at Brighton Fringe '22. She is host of Kent's spoken words series Things with Words, she's had writing commissioned by Apples & Snakes and the Marlowe Theatre, and her rapper alter- ego once blagged their way onto a support slot with The Jungle Brothers.

A Thanet export created during Covid-19 venue shutdown at the Tom Thumb Theatre (Margate's little venue with a big heart!) with material finessed at Ramsgate’s notorious Screaming Alley cabaret, Alpha Femme features eco-friendly up-cycled costumes from Margate designer Lou Halswell (Stume studios/FUUD), original music by Megan - plus one song from Baby Machine, the all-female punk band from Megan’s hometown in Australia, Wollongong.
