About this Event
Miriam Schapiro: Feminist Artist - Abstract Expressionism to Femmage and beyond
Discover the remarkable career of Miriam Schapiro through through key works and collaborations from the 1950s through the 1990s. Presented by Barry Ross, facilitator of DOROT's Exploring and Enjoying Art class, in conversation with artist Donald Traver, who worked directly with Schapiro, the session traces Schapiro's evolution from Abstract Expressionism to her pioneering role in the feminist art, highlighting her groundbreaking development of “femmage,” a form that incorporates fabrics, sewing, quilting, and decorative elements traditionally excluded from fine art.
