About this Event

Brighton Eagle Lab and Thrive are teaming up once again to create a female founder-led morning of stimulating talks and networking!

What is Female Founders Business Brunchin’?

Before the pandemic, every quarter, Brighton Eagle Lab and Thrive used to host a brunch in-person, exclusively featuring female founders and women in business.

After having hosted a number of brunches online throughout the pandemic, we will continue with our in-person brunches this September!

The theme for our upcoming brunch is Thriving in Digital Tech, and our two speakers will be sharing their thought-provoking stories of how they have grown their businesses within a fast-growing (and traditionally male-dominated) industry.

Who is speaking?

Our first speaker is Clare Davey, Co-Founder of digi-training.

Clare is a freelance designer and digital skills tutor based in Brighton and Hove. Clare has worked in the design industry for over 25 years working for clients including a major London local authority, the Museum of London and the BBC. Clare trained at the Glasgow School of Art, graduating with a first class degree in Graphic Design. She then continued her education at the Royal College of Art, London, completing an MA in Graphic Design.

digi-training was set up in 2011 in response to a former student who had lost his confidence after a motorbike accident and needed training in order to go back to work. digi-training are a team of experienced creative industry professionals solving digital design problems for creatives, small business and students. They deliver online or face-to-face training in InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, WordPress and Procreate.

Our second speaker is Melenie Schatynski, Co-Founder of My Code Kit. Melenie helps bring ideas to life through code and teaches others to do the same. She is a people-centric developer, educator and entrepreneur who spends her time creating beautiful things whilst giving people the tools to be able to do the same.

At My Code Kit, they are on a mission to reinvent attitudes to failure when coding. Melenie and her Co-Founder, Mia Pledger, are building Ocobox - a tool to demystify coding for GCSE and A-Level students by turning failure into a positive first attempt in learning.

Who is this event for?

This event is open to everyone - however you identify. At previous brunches, we have attracted a wide range of small business owners and business supporters from Sussex and beyond.

How much are tickets? Who are you fundraising for?

Tickets for this event are £10.

All revenue generated via ticket sales for our September brunch will go directly to The Network of International Women of Brighton and Hove (NIWBH).

The mission of NIWBH is to provide a ‘safe space’, social and personal support, as well as mentoring, education, training and employment opportunities so that women, their families and friends, can make the most of opportunities that are on offer and have an improved quality of life.

The aim of the NIWBH is to reduce social isolation and enhance a sense of belonging especially between women from diverse and marginalised backgrounds, through taking part in inclusive group activities, extending to broader community cohesion and integration for themselves, their families and friends.
