Felted Spaces- Textile Art
Part of the Make Space York project - this session is for girls 11-18
Monday 21st July, 10am- 12pm
Rowntree Park
Join Christine, Rowntree Park's Forest School/Nature practitioner for a creative textile workshop exploring feelings of safety, belonging and identity through the art of wool felting.
Using natural wool fibres, participants will create their own felted textile pieces representing spaces that feel safe, joyful or meaningful to them, whether real places they know well or imagined future spaces they would love to exist.
During the session, girls will experiment with wet felting, needle felting and simple embroidery techniques while exploring how colour, texture, light and materials can reflect emotion, memory and connection to place.
The workshop also uses the process of felting itself as a metaphor for community and connection, with loose fibres gradually binding together to create something strong, shared and meaningful.
Please only book if you are able to attend, as spaces are limited and we would hate for others to miss out. Spaces limited to 15.

Part of a wider creative series
This workshop forms part of a wider series of creative sessions running from May- October, designed to help girls feel more welcome, visible and connected within parks and public spaces. Across the programme, workshops explore themes including:
• Belonging and identity
• Feeling safe in public space
• Power, voice and expression
• Joy, play and friendship
• Nature and connection
• Future visions and design of parks
The creative series is part of the wider Make Space York project and is funded by the LNER Customer and Community Investment Fund, supporting opportunities for girls to shape and connect with their local green spaces.
