About this Event
CLASS DESCRIPTION:
Wouldn’t your pet look adorable hanging out on your office desk or nightstand? In this class, you’ll learn how to make a mini needle felted sculpture of your furry friend. We’ll go through starting with a basic shape, building on details, incorporating wire and the fine details needed to bring your pet to life!
All materials are provided in a Needle Felting Toolbox - all you'll need to bring is a printed or digital image of your pet.
About the Instructor:
Nastassja Swift is a multi-disciplinary artist and owner of D for Dolls. She received her
BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) with a major in Painting & Printmaking and a minor in Craft & Material Studies. Her current work is reflective of spirituality, history and place in the form of visual storytelling. Nastassja has been sharing her love of needle felting with groups of all ages through her felted workshops at institutions such as the VMFA, The Visual Arts Center of Richmond, The Virginia MoCA, The University of Florida, Capital One and more.
D for Dolls is a collection of handmade needle felted figures. I utilize various fiber art methods, including but not limited to - weaving, crochet, and batik printing- to craft soft sculpture visuals. Each felted figure is unique in that no two dolls are the same, and embody their own individual charm, personality and sass. Drawing inspiration from my mother’s African figurines and porcelain dolls, my work embodies the playfulness of dolls with the statuesque nature of sculpture.
