The Center for Slavic, Eurasian, and East European Studies (CSEEES) and Institute for the Arts and Humanities (IAH) at UNC Chapel Hill are delighted to announce a non-residential fellowship award for faculty at minority-serving institutions in North Carolina working on East Europe and Eurasia. These awards are intended to support the awardees:
• to enhance their teaching and research on the region,
• to increase their leadership potential on campus, and /or
• to facilitate development as researchers and public intellectuals.
The fellowship period is for one year and includes at least four opportunities for engagement with the Center for Slavic, Eurasian, and East European Studies and the Institute for the Arts and Humanities, with the option of more frequent or extended engagement at the fellow’s discretion. The core engagements include:
• Meeting with the CSEEES and IAH to discuss and create goals for the fellowship,
• Meeting with the UNC librarian responsible for East European and Eurasian studies to discuss resources needed and those available,
• Presenting their research in a public lecture at UNC, and
• Participating in a book publishing workshop and/or other similar workshops at the IAH.
At the conclusion of the year-long fellowship, awardees will be asked to submit a 2-page report on how their academic and professional development has evolved over the year. The CSEEES and IAH will also work with the fellow to support the goals of the fellowship and identify opportunities for continuing support where possible.
Fellows will receive UNC Visiting Scholar status, full library access, a desk space at IAH, invitations to CSEEES and IAH events throughout the fellowship year, and a stipend of $5,000.
Full-time faculty members at minority-serving institutions in North Carolina who have been employed for a minimum of three years are eligible to apply. Applications comprise a CV and a one-page description of proposed research project and how the applicant plans on using the resources offered at UNC-Chapel Hill to complete or advance the project for the time of the fellowship. We highly encourage Chairs of faculty applicants to consider awarding one course release to a fellowship winner.
The next fellowship will run for the 2025 calendar year. Applications can be submitted via email to [email protected]. For full consideration, applications are due November 1, 2024, and fellows will be announced by December 6, 2024.
