Feel Good Art Club
About this Event
Feel Good Art Club embraces a mindful art session to help you find stillness and calm and enjoy an evening developing your skills. Don’t worry if you’ve not picked up a pencil since school – it’s a relaxed and friendly group where all are welcome, from the more experienced artists to the absolute beginners.
Each session begins with a short mindful exercise led by your tutor, followed by a creative session linked to a new theme each week. You’ll take inspiration from different still life objects, artists’ work and reference images.
Materials and objects related to that weeks’ theme are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own too.
Each week is a stand-alone class but join regularly and really see your skills improve.
Upcoming Themes:
3 Jun - Weird and Wonderful Wildlife
This week at Feel Good Art Club, we’ll be diving into the strange, fascinating and beautiful world of wildlife. Using the museum's natural history collections and images as inspiration, we’ll explore curious creatures and intricate natural forms through different media. You'll get the chance to slow down, hone your drawing skills or just look more deeply and textures and details. Celebrating the weird and wonderful parts of the natural world.
17 Jun - Shape and Colour
In this session, we’ll be focusing on shape and colour. We’ll look at how various artists have used colour to create their work through a short presentation. Our first warm up exercise will be finding imagery within large colourful scribbles. After that, we’ll use tissue paper to create collaged shapes onto which we will draw on details with heavy pens. This will encourage us to think about new ways of image making, starting with shape and colour, and adding in detail at the end.
1 July - Blue through time...
We will be exploring the origins of Blue pigment in art and how it became a sacred colour in Western Art one of the dominant colours in modern art. From Egyptian blue to Cobalt blue, through paint we will explore artists who have famously used this pigment as a visual signature to their work, from Titian to Picasso.
5 Aug - Pattern
We will be exploring patterns in nature, design and mindfulness art practices. It'll be a chance to slow down and play with patterns, finding inspiration to observe and create our own.
2 Sep - Monoprinting
16 Sep - All Surface, More Feeling
The surface on which a painting is produced is historically known as a 'support'. These 'supports' were then coated with a smooth layer called a ground. From cave art, parchment to canvas we will be exploring various textured surfaces with paints and drawing materials in an expressive, free creative way!
Please note that the rest of the gallery closes at 5pm. The entrance from the Winter Gardens will be closed. Please come in through the entrance on Arundel Gate, opposite Sheffield Hallam University.
This workshop is aimed at adults and the minimum age to attend is 14 years old. 14-16 year olds will need to be accompanied by an adult. For events and activities aimed at children, please see our website.
Please read the cancellation policy here before booking. We are unable to give refunds or tickets transfers with less than 7 days' notice before the session takes place.
