September 25th is known as Public Lands Day. Come bike and volunteer with us! We will plant, paint and cleanup Peck Park in El Monte.
About this Event

Active SGV is teaming up with Nature 4 All, Amigos De Los Rios, San Gabriel Valley Conservation Corps and REI CO-OP to put together a really fun and rewarding bike ride and park clean up!

With your help, your day will include a bike tour of the proposed National Recreation Area and painting/planting and/or invasive plant removal. We will conclude the event with a Lunch that will be provided from the organizers.

EVENT DETAILS

Date: Saturday, September 25th

Timeline: 7am-1pm

7:00am - Meet at Jeff Seymour Family Center, ABC Bike Check, Check out a loaner bike

7:30am  - Roll Out7:45am  - 5 minute talk on Public Lands and Proposed National Recreation Area.

7:55am  - Arrive on site, cool down and lock up bike

8:00am  - Report to N4A for volunteer duties

11:00am/11:30am - Lunch

12pm/1230pm - Event Over, leave from Peck Park or join feeder ride back to Jeff Seymour Family Center

Start: Jeff Seymour Family Center Parking Lot (10900 Mulhall St. El Monte CA 91731) Park on Mulhall side. Park in lot or street is ok!

End: Peck Road Water Conservation Park, 5401 Peck Rd, Arcadia, CA 91006

Route: Mostly flat, approx. 1.7-mile route on low-traffic city streets and protected bike lanes Experience Level: Beginner

What to Bring:

A functional bicycle or wheeled device (one could be loaned out for the ride but must be returned to JSFC when the group heads back at 12/12:30pm.

Mask or face covering to wear at stops and when not able to social distance

Comfortable shoes to ride/work in.

Gloves to ride/work in

Hand sanitizer

TAP card or money for fare if you plan to use the Metro bus or train.

A helmet is required if under 18

Bike lock (optional) We will have a lock up area once we get to the park.

Clothes you don't mind getting dirty

Water Bottle (with water) Lunch will be provided if you plan to volunteer(Signup HERE)

Bikes with training wheels are not permitted, but children are welcome to attend if pulled in a trailer or on-bike child seat

*** PLEASE NOTE: All ride participants must sign this waiver to participate. A parent or legal guardian is required to sign for and accompany any minors under 18 participating in the ride. 

*****RAIN POLICY: In the event of a rain forecast, we will contact you 24 hours in advance to confirm or cancel the ride

**Safety Protocols: We will be observing strict protocols during the ride to ensure safety and comfort for all participants and instructors. The entire ride will be conducted outdoors to maximize physical distancing.

Please keep in mind the following rules while attending the ride:You must confirm your attendance in advance of the ride so we know to expect you and hold your spot. You must also confirm in advance if you will be needing to borrow a bike for the event.

Every attendee must sign-in and complete a waiver.If you are feeling sick or unwell, please stay home. There are many virtual class and self-guided ride options still available.

Even if you are fully vaccinated, please bring a mask or face covering to wear at ride stops and socially distance from others on the ride not in your household. If you are not yet fully vaccinated, you are still required to wear a mask or face covering outdoors when you cannot keep a safe distance while exercising (at least 8 feet).

Staff and ride marshals reserve the right to refuse service to anyone who does not follow these protocols (e.g., arrives without prior registration, does not complete waiver, refuses to wear a mask).
