FED Workshop - Panel Discussion: The Intersection of Food and Culture

This event will be a collaboration between Patagonia Denver and Slow Food Denver. We are joining forces to bring a group of chefs, farmers, restaurantors, and other panelists from the community together to explore the important, and sometimes complicated, intersection of culture and food. The evening will include immigrant and refugee voices, as well as individuals that have been a part of the Denver food scene for longer.

We’re at an interesting point in time where culture and food are part of a global conversation. Ideas are spread widely and freely. In many ways, this is a beautiful way of sharing not only awareness, but also appreciation for different cultures and traditions. However, sometimes it means that lines are crossed, boundaries are disrespected, and things are lost in translation.

As we navigate a time of globalized ideas and broader sharing of cultures, how do we know where the line is and when we’ve crossed it?

Food can be deeply personal. It can also be a means for gathering, connecting, and communicating. As we learn more about international cultures and gain insight on foods that are grown, cooked, and eaten around the world, when and where can we incorporate these findings without appropriating foods that aren’t ours?

We invite you to attend a panel discussion on the intersection of food and culture where we will learn more about the global chef perspective through the lens of four local chefs and experts with diverse backgrounds about what is happening for them personally and within their communities. The conversation will be mediated by Adrian Miller, a James Beard award winner on soul food.

Before the panel discussion, we invite you to join us to learn more about Slow Food, Patagonia, and other tablers working in the food space. We will also be offering refreshments from Convivio Cafe for purchase.
