About this Event
Free admission with happy hour specials on drinks and food. This month, our featured guests are Pam Leonard and John Flower, directors of the China Folk House project.
John is the retired Director of the Sidwell Friends School Chinese Studies Program, a former associate professor of East Asian History at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and fellow at the East Asia Center at the University of Virginia.
Pam received a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Cambridge; in the early 1990s, she worked with the Sichuan Bureau of Animal Husbandry studying livestock development. She has worked as an adjunct professor of Anthropology at UNC Charlotte and has run an organic farm with chickens, cows, and dairy goats.
The China Folk House is a farmhouse from Cizhong, Yunnan that was rebuilt and moved to a Quaker homestead along the Shenandoah River near Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. China Folk House serves as a living museum dedicated to people-to-people cultural exchange between the U.S. and China, experiential learning programs, environmental stewardship, and community engagement.
