About this Event

Welcome back everyone!

The theme for February's Storytelling Night is A Blessing & A Curse.

There are certain experiences that, while mostly positive, carry with them negative consequences. A higher-paying job means longer hours. Getting your driver's license means always giving everyone a ride. Your incredible skin means you always get ID’d at the club. Whether it’s an unexpected downside or an unavoidable evil, a character trait or an encounter, consider a positive in your life that came with an inextricable negative. Then tell us all about it.

In addition to RSVPing, you're invited to bring one other person who would enjoy what we're all about. A neighbor, a friend, someone you'd like to get to know a little better. (Remember: they don't have to be interested in telling a story, only in hearing a few stories from others.)

Food+Drink:There will be wine, beer, and food available for purchase through Art Shack's cafe and bar.

Access+Seating: We will be in a first-floor cafe with a combination of couches and chairs available at a first-come basis.

FAQ:

What is this thing?

Club Motte is a storytelling night that caters to those who aren’t normally the type to share. We remove the pressure of having to tell a story well, and instead provide the space for you to simply tell it. There is no voting or winner, just an empty chair, a group of people ready to listen, and a few people who have something to say. Our events are free and open to the public, and aim to elevate untold stories and unheard voices. We provide the night’s theme; our audience provides everything else.

Do I have to tell a story?

Nope! You only have to be interested in listening to the stories told by others. If you're not sure if you want to tell a story or not, don't worry. You can decide at any point throughout the night.

Can I prepare something in advance?

You're welcome to plan the story you'd like to tell, but we prefer our storytellers not use notes or any reference materials. This is to both emphasize spontaneity and discovery, and to encourage those without notes to share as well.

Can I bring my kids? My roommate? My mother-in-law?

As long as you're comfortable sitting next to your child/roommate/mother-in-law as a stranger tells a story about sex, drugs, and all the rest, we encourage you to bring anyone you'd like!
