Built in the late 1860s when train service began in Georgetown, the Georgetown Train Station serviced both passenger and freight trains. Passengers could travel from Georgetown to Dover, Harrington, Lewes, and Wilmington and beyond. Regular passenger service was discontinued mid-twentieth century, and today the Norfolk Southern line uses the track for carrying freight. An aggressive restoration program has restored the building to the way it was in the 1880s. The building today houses a museum displaying interesting railroad and historic artifacts, and carefully constructed model train layouts. The adjacent Historic Georgetown Volunteer Fire Company is currently being restored to how it appeared in 1920, and is also a sketching opportunity.

Parking is available at the train station and the fire company, the building is toasty and warm, and offers restrooms. There are also chairs available for us to use.
