About April Grigsby
Born in Southern California, April Grigsby did most of her growing up in central Ohio where she attended the Columbus College of Art & Design, graduating with a BFA with major in ceramics. Her career in art has spanned over 4 decades, during which time she has been an advertising illustrator in Chicago, a muralist and portrait artist. Although her creative pursuits have been varied, April’s great passion has always been working with clay. During a short stay in central California, April also taught ceramics to high school students. She now focuses entirely on creating bonsai containers.
In 2002 April received a second place award for her traditional pot in the 2nd North American Juried Bonsai Pot Competition. Her recent entry in the 2025 competition was only for display purposes. April creates traditional bonsai pots that are greatly inspired by quality Japanese and Chinese containers. She works with mid range stoneware that is fired to its maturation temperature, making her pots resistant to freezing and thawing. Since April spends a great deal of time making each pot, she produces a somewhat limited number of pieces each year… usually only vending at two shows.
