Join the Bloomington Poetry Slam with your local wordsmiths for a night of poetry, libations, and passion! The night begins with an open mic featuring local artists, singers, musicians, and writers then ends with a poetry slam.If you've ever considered performing but needed extra encouragement, consider this it! Open mic is open to all types of stage performance. Slam is all original work, competition style.
Note for Black History Month:
In February, we want to make sure to honor Black History Month and prioritize Black voices. Black artists will have priority on stage, and in the event of filled lists then we may bump non-Black artists to allow for that space. If this happens, we'll be sure to let folks know as soon as possible.

This month's featured artist is Bloomington Poetry Slam founder, Ciara Miller!!
Ciara Darnise Miller, a native of Chicago, holds both an MFA and MA in Poetry and African American/African Diaspora Studies from Indiana University. She also received her BA in Liberal Arts from Sarah Lawrence College. She is a Cave Canem fellow who has published poems and academic essays in such collections and periodicals as Break Beat Poets, African American Review, Callaloo, Muzzle, Alice Walker: Critical Insights, Chorus, and many more. She currently lives in Chicago where she serves as a Writing, Rhetoric, and Discourse professor at DePaul University as well as an Afro-American Studies professor at Kennedy King College. She enjoys Wordle, Scrabble, chess, uno championships, and taking standardized tests to advance her test prep and career support business, Miller’s Learning Center.
