February 2025 LA 3-D Club Meeting

PLEASE NOTE: THE FEBRUARY MEETING WILL BE HELD ONE WEEK LATER THAN USUAL, ON THE 4TH THURSDAY OF THE MONTH, 2/27

The February meeting of the LA 3-D Club will take place on Thursday, February 27 from 7:00pm – 9:30pm at the Velaslavasay Panorama, 1122 W 24th St, Los Angeles, CA 90007

This month we’ll focus on the latest news in 3-D conversions. First, we’ll take a look at the work of EYEPOP-3D, aiming to set the benchmark standard for excellence in independent 2D to 3D film conversions. Founded by indie 3D filmmaker, Andrew Murchie, as an experiment in emerging technologies, EYEPOP-3D provides a platform for 3D enthusiasts to share their conversions with the wider 3D community. The team has expanded to include fellow 3D enthusiasts Alex Folk and Philip Williams, both highly regarded in the indie 3D conversion community. Their shared passion for creating great looking stereoscopic content and ingenuity at experimenting with a wide range of techniques and emerging technologies has created a team able to create top quality 3d conversions.

Andrew will tell us about the company and the work that they are doing to bring both independent films and classic public domain movies to Blu-Ray 3D. We will take a look at clips from some of their current releases, including the Fleischer Studios SUPERMAN cartoons from the 1940s and the 1962 horror classic CARNIVAL OF SOULS.

Next we’ll have a hands-on mini workshop on using the latest AI conversion software from our friend in Japan, Masuji Suto. He has recently released the free Android app Depthmaker, which allows anyone to instantly convert 2-D images into 3-D, and offers various methods of viewing and output.

The meeting will conclude with a club member “Show-and-Tell.” We would love to see your favorite 3-D images and collectibles. Members are encouraged to share an item of interest with the rest of the attendees. Share you favorite photos, videos, and 3-D items.
