The Mouth Dakota Poetry Project is proud to present a very special feature after a brief open mic - Joaquín Zihuatanejo. Joaquín Zihuatanejo was the inaugural Poet Laureate for the city of Dallas. He was awarded a $50,000 Laureate Fellowship prize by the Academy of American Poets in honor of the extraordinary work he did as Dallas’ first poet laureate. He earned his MFA from the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He is the only poet to win the Individual World Poetry Slam Championship and the World Cup of Poetry Slam Championship held in Paris, France, making him for a time, the number one ranked slam poet on the planet. His new book, Occupy Whiteness, which he will have for sale, is out now from Deep Vellum Publishing.
The presentation will include a reading followed by a moderated discussion of Occupy Whiteness with Joaquín.
Come share, come listen, or just come and enjoy the best chips and (por)queso in San Antonio.
